Motion will rarely enter one of his horses in a stakes race off such a layoff unless they're ready to roll. This daughter of Karakontie ain't shipping down from New York for her health. I like her 10-1 morning-line odds.

There will be others that see this too and I'll be surprised if he stays at his 12-1 morning-line odds.

Race 7: A full field of 12 goes forward for this 2-year-old filly maiden race going 7-furlongs on the main track. Trainer Eddie Keneally has had live horses this fall meet and I am pointing to this daughter of McKinzie named Amath who is making her second start after running 7th as the beaten favorite at CD in her September debut. I watched the replay and she broke slow and was definitely hindered by her fellow youngsters all the way around the track. She definitely had a legitimate excuse and I've experienced 2nd-time Saez as a proven profitable angle. She'll go off at attractive odds.

Race 5: This cheapy $10K Allowance goes 1-1/8th on the main track. I've found that the cheapest races at Keeneland are typically won by the fittest horse. Write Off Jerry is coming off three straight turf-tries for for trainer Joe Sharp where this gelding finished 2nd in two of those three. Joe is no dummy. He is conditioning this 4-year-old to go turf-to-dirt and is giving a leg up to leading rider Tyler Gaffalione who is coming off a two day suspension for a whip violation this past Sunday. He whipped 7 times when you are allowed 6. Really??? His morning-line is 15-1 but I'll take anything around 8-1. "You don't even know what a write off is...but they're the ones writing it off". He wins today.

Trainer Steve Asmussen is a dismal 1 for 17 this meet but today he'll garner his second victory with Duke of Duval in the Thursday finale. This son of Arrogate has a couple of 2nds to his credit in his four starts but today he makes an equipment change and adds blinks along with adding super-jock Irad Ortiz, Jr. When Asmussen gives a leg up to anyone other than his son Keith, you must pay extra attention. I like him at morning-line odds of 9-2.

Race 7: This one is an Allowance $120K that goes 1-1/8th miles on the main track. Very few people will be paying attention to Arijana's Pearl who has 1 win in her 8 starts. This 3-year-old daughter of Curlin has a case of seconditis with 4 of those 8 tries but today she adds just a bit more distance which should be to her liking. Relatively unknown trainer McLean Robertson has started 10 this meet with no wins but he does have 3 third place finishes with longer priced runners. This is one of those races where the most fit is likely to run well and Arijana's Pearl fits the bill at juicy odds of 20-1.

She returns to Keeneland where she broke her maiden at first asking last October and Johnny V returns in the saddle where this jockey/trainer combo wins at a whopping 28%.

She'll likely stay above even odds with a formidable foe named Mystic Pleasure as her main rival.

Trainer Phil Bauer ships brings Two Sharp down from Saratoga where she was beaten a neck as the favorite to the highly acclaimed Brightwork in the Prioress Stakes. Jockey Junior Alvarado hopped on the plane to maintain the mount which is a good sign this gal is going to take this one over this smallish field of eight.

The Bet: Race 3: $100 across the board on #4-TWO SHARP

Race 6: This $100K Optional Claimer goes 6-1/2 on the main track. Giant Mischief is expected to go off the favorite for trainer Brad Cox but my attention turned to 7-year-old Lofty Adjudicator for trainer Anna Navarrete. It's not often you see horses bounce from tracks like Churchill and Keeneland then to Belterra and back again, but this gelding is coming off three straight wins and feeling very full of himself at the moment. Back in April here at Keeneland, he opened eyes with a second place finish going 6 furlongs at odds of 31-1 which tells me that he has an affinity for the Keeneland surface. He's coming into this race in tip top shape and his odds will likely remain at a lofty 10-1.

Race 8: This one is for 2-year-old maidens and goes 6 furlongs on the main track. This full field of 12 is one of the best betting races of the day and I'm going with Bob Mo who is trained by the relatively unknown Rohan Crichton. Crichton already had a win this meet on opening weekend and now ships Bob Mo over from Churchill where he ran last in his September debut at 3-1 odds. For whatever reason, this son of Uncle Mo was given a 6-1 morning-line. This is a head-scratcher as I see him floating up to double-digits considering there's a big field full of known trainers and hot jockeys. Julien Leparoux gets the leg up and I see him trying to steal this on the front end.

Race 7: This is another fantastic betting race. This is an Allowance turf mile for non-winners of two. Trainer Michael Stidham ships Dear Louise down from Delaware where this Hard Spun filly broke her maiden at first asking in August going 7-1/2 furlongs on the grass. Today Stidham adds blinkers as well as the services of top jock Irad Ortiz. I look for this Godolphin homebred to go to the front and take it gate to wire at juicy odds of 12-1.

Race 6: This is a $62,500 Claimer going 7 furlongs on the main track. Trainer Wes Ward's barn is not particularly hot in the fall but I am zeroing in on his filly Sarir today who is coming off of a July turf-try where she finished a disappointing 5th. Now with some time off and some good works, she comes to Lexington fresh and ready to roll. When Ward gives a leg up to Johnny V, his horses tend to win. This is my best of the day at 5-1 morning-line odds.

Race 8: This one goes 1-1/8th miles on the lawn. Uncle Jake makes his second start off a May layoff for trainer Carlo Vaccarezza. Back in the Spring, he entered this one in a similar race that was rained off the grass and he won for fun on a sloppy track. This son of Uncle Mo returns to Lexington targeting these conditions and gets the services of jockey Tyler Gaffalione. He has 3 wins in 5 starts this year and he should not disappoint at square odds of 10-1.

Race 5: This one closes out the early PK5 that has a $256,000 carryover and goes 1-1/8th miles on the grass. My hope is that there are a few scratches to allow the Chad Brown-trained Weighted Average into the body of the field. This 3-year-old filly is making her second start off a year layoff. She hit the gate at the start of her September race at Aqueduct and finished a closing 3rd under jockey Eric Cancel. Today, Brown will put his main man Irad Ortiz in the saddle and you should expect to see him coming with a late flourish and take this one with ease.

The Bet: Race 5: $100 across the board on #15-WEIGHTED AVERAGE

Race 3: This $40,000 Claimer goes 6-furlongs on the main track. A small field of seven goes postward and I am looking to beat the favorite Invulnerable with the Mike Maker-trained Improbable Journey. Maker sent this gelding to Saratoga for miler off a June layoff where he stumbled at the gate finishing last of 8 at odds of 2-1. Now he cuts back in distance and gets jockey Luis Saez who will try to take him gate to wire. The morning-line is 10-1 but it's more likely to be half that price at post time.

Race 7: This one goes 7-furlongs on the main track for maidens. All the players are represented with runners for Cox, McPeek, Asmussen, etc. I am looking at a firster trained by Rudy Brisset named Tuscaloosa. Probably not a good omen to select this horse based on Vandy's huge upset of Alabama yesterday, but I've always been a contrarian at heart. Even though Brisset is not known for his starters winning at first asking, but owner WinStar Farm is. This owner likes to win and helps spot races to do so. Tuscaloosa was a $700,000 purchase at last year's Keeneland September sale and has been working well in the mornings. He gets top rider Tyler Gaffalione which only adds to the appeal. He'll be square odds come post time.

The Bet: Race 7: $100 across the board on #8-TUSCALOOSA

Race 3: This is a turf mile for maidens with a full field of 12. Mr. B's longshot play Emmy Blue happens to be in this race too which tells me that a chaotic outcome is likely. I am going with Rather Distinct who is making his second start for trainer Eddie Keneally. This 2-year-old filly finished 3rd in her debut at Ellis Park back in August. Now this daughter of Justify comes back at the same mile distance and gets the services of Johnny V in the saddle. We know that Justify's progeny take well to the dirt, but believe it or not, they are even better on the grass. I like this one at juicy morning line odds of 15-1.

Race 6: The Woodford Stakes goes 5-1/2 furlongs on the grass for 3-year-olds and up. This field of 12 is loaded from top to bottom so I'm pointing to one of the two million dollar earners in the field. Since I never can seem to catch Gear Jockey at the right time, I'm going with the Larry Rivelli-trained Nobals. This 5-year-old is coming off two straight 4th place finishes this year after winning the BC Turf Sprint at Santa Anita last fall (I was there). Put a line through the race at Kentucky Downs as he looked like he didn't care for the configuration. He bounces back nicely today at square price.

The Bet: Race 6: $100 across the board on #6-NOBALS

Race 11: Saturday's finale goes 7-furlongs on the main track for maidens. Bob Baffert makes his first appearance of the meet with Tour Player. This American Pharoah colt has plenty of early speed for a track that favored speed all day on Friday. He's coming off a May layoff which may be a concern but his two straight bullet works tell me he's ready to dominate with Johnny V in the irons. This jockey/trainer combo wins at 41%. That's good enough for me along with juicy morning-line odds of 12-1.

Race 3: This one goes 7-furlongs on the main track for maidens 3-year-olds and up. These conditions are typical for the Keeneland fall meet and this race is usually won by maidens that prep at Churchill or in New York and are not coming off layoffs. That being said, I'm going against all of these factors and choosing Brad Cox-trained Upon a Star. This filly is making her second start off a runner-up finish at Fair Grounds in February going 6 furlongs. Not sure why this one didn't race over the summer, but she returned to the work tab in August and has been lighting it up. Cox wins at 35% off a layoff of 180 days or more and wins at 29% combined with jockey Florent Geroux. When these percentages eclipse his already staggering 27% winning percentage, go ahead and set up the tripod for the win photo.

The Bet: Race 3: $100 across the board on #11-UPON A STAR.

Results: Leave it to me to choose the only Cox horse not to win today. Loss of $300

Race 8: The Jessamine Stakes is for 2-year-old filled and goes 1-1/16th on the grass. Churchill runners have produced 3 of the last 4 winners and Kentucky Downs' runners have produced only 1 winner. I am going to keep with my contrarian attitude and go with Mechaya who aired by 5-1/2 lengths in her debut at Kentucky Downs on August 29th. In a race devoid of speed, this Liam's Map filly will likely go to the front and lull this full field of 12 to sleep before taking this Grade 2 at 15-1 morning-line odds.

The Bet: Race 8: $20 across the board on #5-MECHAYA
